Innovative Techniques to Teaching

By Kathy Deisler Education is getting increasingly competitive in todays world and new scientific researches are suggesting more and more innovative techniques on how it can be made more efficient and effective. Today our old classroom education is rapidly replaced by interactive digital approach. Software like Blackboard is innovating not only our class room learning but also brings new dimensions to first hand learning. For improvement in any education system, we have to focus on four basic things. 1. How the course is managed 2. Methods of teaching and evaluation 3. Student teacher communication 4. Peer to Peer interaction. How the course is managed First and foremost for effective education is, how the courses and subjects managed by schools and academic institutions. Better management in terms of providing reading material, clear instruction regarding how the whole course will progress, makes the student chart out schedules according to his or her comfort zone. One of the best approaches is to have more diversity in the class; this approach will not only bring more point of views in same class but also help in student working with peers from different backgrounds. Methods of teaching and evaluation As more and more schools are going for inclusion of technology in teaching process, the learning is becoming increasingly interactive. But with all these gadgetry it still left to the teacher how he or she wants to approach their lessons. More and more teachers are taking the road of participative approach to teaching these days. It makes the student feels the part of the system and make him believe that he is the part of decision making process and these decisions are important to him. In fact discussing with students how they will be evaluated and what are the aspects teacher look forward to in evaluation, to my mind makes student feel more responsible for their learning. Student Teacher Interaction Apart from the grading and evaluation process, student teacher interaction should be encouraged. The new technologies are enabling student to interact with their teachers on holidays and have extra clarification on weekends. These sorts of interactions are helpful to both students and teachers. It helps teachers in designing and developing a learning system for the respective class in fact it can be crystallized to respective student. As more and more students are coming from different cultural, social and economic backgrounds it became imperative for the teacher to mould his or her approach according to the student. Peer to Peer Interaction One area where the latest technologies like Blackboard are helping is increasing level of peer to peer interaction. In fact encouraging part is that even teachers can participate in these peer to peer interaction platforms. For example the Blackboard software enable student to manage their email accounts and discuss various topics on the college based online chat or discussion board. These boards provide everybody an opportunity to present his or her point of view and how they feel about the assignment and how they are tackling it. It also opens new window for teachers to understand the students reaction toward their approach. One thing I personally like about the technology usage is it inculcates even the distance learning student in mainstream. To my mind the biggest learning platform for the future will be these discussion boards where teachers will encourage students to participate and they can even be graded for their participative level. The 5 Relationship-Wrecking Mistakes — Mistake #3 Message Assuming

By Kristin Denton “How Avoid the 5 Most Common Heart-Breaking, Intimacy -Destroying And Relationship-Wrecking Communication Mistakes” Mistake #3, Message Assuming In the previous two articles, we discussed the first two of the 5 most Common Relationship Communication Mistakes: Case Building and Story Telling. The first choice we are faced with in communication happens so fast… we don’t even know we are making a choice. But, here it is, deciding whether we want to build a case against somebody, or build a connection with them. The second mistake is Story Telling. This is when we tell ourselves a story about an some thing that happened (without checking the facts) — and the believe it. We see our lover come to bed with flannel pajamas on, decide that that’s the end of our sex life and no longer find us attractive, and then begin pouting about it. We believe our own story about the other person, forgetting the fact that it just snowed for the first time today and winter has set in. The third mistake is Message Assuming. There are two sides to this mistake. The first side is we assume we actually understand what the person is saying in the way that we intended. The second side is assuming that the person we are talking to… actually understands our message in the way that we intended. If I talk about a desk to a student of mine, they may associate the word with the place where they are held captive six hours a day. To me it is the place where great thoughts and ideas come to life. So, just the one little word ‘desk’ can evoke a tremendously different emotional response in two different people. Then imagine trying to have a complete conversation with hundreds of words. Really, it’s a wonder that our communication ever succeeds at all. So what can we do to avoid misunderstanding? We can ask the other person to repeat what they understood. That way we can hear from them directly what’s going on in their mind. The communication method of nonviolent communication has four distinct steps that help avoid misunderstanding: state the observation, say how it makes you feel, say what need of yours it meets or doesn’t meet, then make a request. The most useful request to make is to ask, “Would you be willing to tell me what your heard me say?” I watched Paul teach the Language of Peace in the Jefferson County jail one day. He role-played a situation with a woman, whom I will call Cecilia, who was very upset with her ‘cell-y’ or cell mate. The cell mate was touching and moving Cecilia’s things which offended her. Paul was role playing Cecilia and Cecilia was playing the cell mate. Paul, as Cecilia, said, “When you move my things I feel very frightened because I have a need for autonomy for me and safety for my things. Would you be willing to tell me what you heard me say?” “Yeah, you said I’m an asshole for touching your things.” Paul responded, calmly, “Thank you.” After all, she had answered his question as he asked. Paul continued, “Well, really I feel angry because I have a need for protecting my belongings. They’re all I’ve got with me here. Would you tell me what you heard me say?” “Yeah,” she threw back at him, “you want me out of your cell.” “Thank you,” replied Paul. And then he tried again. It took almost eight rounds of trying to express feelings and needs for the woman to repeat the actual words he was saying to her. We all cheered when she finally repeated it. What was even more interesting is that she wasn’t even role playing herself, but was responding in the way she imagined her ‘cell-y’ would hear the requests. Without this process, though, Paul would have moved on to his next statement, never knowing whether or not the other person understood what he was saying. Another technique for avoiding the Message Assume mistake is the 40 word rule. Some people think that saying more words will equal better understanding, but it doesn’t work that way. Often, more words equal a bigger and messier misunderstanding. Here’s the rule: Never go more than 40 words without checking in with the other person to check for understanding: “Would you tell me what you heard me say?” And always thank the person for their effort in answering the question. When it’s really important that you are understood, going slowly is the only way to go. And here’s an assignment: three times over the next few days, after making a statement, ask the person who’s been listening, “Would you tell me what you heard me say?” You’ll be amazed at the difference between what you said and what they heard. Catching Smallmouth Bass In Rivers

By Trevor Kugler One of the most enjoyable things to do on this planet is to catch smallmouth bass, while wading in a river. The angling is done in the same manner as fishing for trout. The exact same gear is even employed. The only difference is the type of fish that you’re catching. In central Pennsylvania, we used to regularly catch 3-4 pound smallmouth on the exact same gear that we used for trout and it was a lot of fun. Talk about getting you in shape for trout fishing! Smallmouth bass with the help of the flowing current will, most certainly, get you ready for most any trout that you might encounter. It’s widely accepted that pound for pound, smallmouth bass are the hardest fighting fish that there is. Catching smallmouth bass is a ton of fun. Just for clarification, I’m speaking of putting on your waders and fishing for them the same way you would for trout. The baits and methods are normally the same as well, although with small mouth’s larger baits can normally be employed if the angler would like. For example, spinners and spoons up to ounce can be used for smallmouth, whereas with trout I normally don’t use spinners or spoons larger than 3/8 ounce. Smallmouth Bass are voracious feeders, so color and size changes with the situation. As with many types of fishing, experimentation is integral to success. One of the most effective methods for catching Smallmouth Bass in rivers is to use live bait. We’ve always had great success fishing live worms rigged on a set of gang hooks. Then you simply bounce the worm off of the bottom, while flowing with the current. This is a deadly method for catching Smallmouth, and is almost always effective. Fill your bait bag with worms, rig one on a get of gang hooks, and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. The bottom line is that catching smallmouth bass, while wading in rivers, is the same as fishing for trout in rivers. The equipment’s the same the bait’s are the same, and the tackle’s the same. The only difference is the type of fish that you’re catching. In many instances, both of these fish can be caught in the same places, although if you’re catching smallmouth, you usually don’t catch a ton of trout for some reason. In any case catching smallmouth in a flowing river is a ton of fun, and you should give it a shot. Trevor Kugler is co-founder of JRWfishing.com and an avid angler. Using Online Resources to Learn How to Oil Paint

By Dakota Caudilla Lets admit it, its not going to be a walk in the park learning the right oil painting techniques online. But if you dont have a lot of time and maybe you dont have the kind of financial resources to learn oil painting techniques by attending classes right now, you can always try to find online resources that will help you adopt the right oil painting techniques. Nothing can take the place of one-on-one guidance but with in-depth information, useful tools and your own willingness to learn, youll master the art of oil painting just as quickly as a person who attends oil painting classes for three years. You dont need a certificate to prove that you can paint in oil as well as others, your own portfolio and samples is proof enough. Thats the amazing thing about art. Your talent speaks for itself and you dont really need a college or academic body to affirm it for you. Most artistic geniuses of previous generations didnt get the kind of guidance or lessons that some of our artists get today and look at the number of outstanding artists we have in those times compared to now. When youre relying on online resources to help you learn the right oil painting techniques, the most important thing is for you to absorb whatever is being said, research words and terms that you do not understand through communities and message boards, and then apply the stuff that you have learnt from those lessons consistently. So, the steps to learning oil painting through online resources are:- Absorb: read and take in whatever that theyre trying to tell you. You dont have a lecturer or a teacher to stand over you and correct your mistakes. Thats why your reference to the online resource should be meticulous. Research: One of the biggest challenges to learning oil painting online is that sometimes youre left in a lurch because no one teaches you all those technical terms that theyre spurting out and youre lost. Either research the word through www.wikipedia.com, www.dictionary.com, or go to online communities and post your questions there. Dont be ashamed or shy to ask. The biggest mistake you can make is to hold back and pretend that you know. Application: Application is the biggest and most important part of learning oil painting through online resources. Keep in mind the things that you have learnt, print it out and file it nicely so that you can be reminded of it later on. Feedback: This is also called humbling time. Whenever youve learnt something new, copy it into digital format by either scanning it or taking a picture of it, go to an online forum and get feedback from people like you or from professionals. Dont take their feedback or comments personally, instead, take it professionally in your stride. Their comments and feedback will only serve to make your work better the next time round. Enhance Your Beauty Practices Naturally With Aromatherapy

By Sally Evans Most women have their own beauty routine whether thats quite basic or more involved. And nowadays, these women are more aware of the products theyre using and often make the choice to use more natural products. The obvious choice then is to use aromatherapy as a way to enhance their beauty routines. Aromatherapy is the practice of using fragrant herbs and plants to nurture the body, mind, and spirit. It isnt a new science with the Bible and Ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Chinese, and the Bible all make reference to different forms of Aromatherapy. Some of these forms include baths, face masks, oils, massages, incense and herbal teas for both drinking and soaking. The distinction between body, mind, and spirit wasnt as clear as it is now. Today, beauty for some women consists of the latest cosmetic products and focuses purely on the surface and their physical appearance, while for other women the priority is on their internal beauty, starting with a healthy body. This healthy body is achieved by drinking plenty of water, consuming pure whole foods, and regular exercise. And of course theres the women who include spirituality in their beauty routines. They include meditation and prayer to handle the emotional and physical stresses of life so that they attain and preserve their beauty. Aromatherapy plays an effective part in all three of these areas of beauty. If your beauty routine is focused on the products in a bottle, many herbal remedies and formulas are used to enhance these makeup products. From lipsticks to foundations and creams, included are the rich fragrances of aromatic herbs. These not only have beautifying components, but their tranquil scents relax the mind. If your priority is to focus on cleansing your body from the inside out and you believe that optimum health is an important part of your beauty practices, aromatherapy infusions provide a fabulous way to cleanse your body, release any toxins, and provide the harmony and balance your body requires. For meditation and prayer, aromatherapy is used to purify your surrounding environment bringing about a state of internal peacefulness and balance to release day-to day stresses and the negative thoughts that plague many peoples minds. Often the best approach is to use all a blend of all the above areas to get the most from your aromatherapy practices and achieve the beauty you desire. By using herbal combinations on your skin you will not only benefit from the beautifying effects on your skin you also treat any surface skin blemishes and infections from within. There are many herbs such as Chamomile, Aloe Vera, Sage, Black Walnut, Rosemary, and Tea Tree that beautify your skin by maintaining your skins suppleness keeping it in optimum health. You can add herbal infusions to your baths and herbs can also be infused into massage oils to beautify your whole body. Herbal massages are an amazing way to ease sore muscles, to fight depression, and to stimulate your lymph system to improve circulation. By building into your regular beauty routine all of these aromatherapy techniques, your external appearance will improve, in addition to your mind and emotions. Now, youve got some ideas of using aromatherapy in your beauty routine, take just a couple of minutes and decide specifically which one youre now going to incorporate into your daily routine. Wedding Limo Service, You Will Really Need It

By Gordon Petten The limo you arrive and drive off in at your wedding are often decisions that require a lot if time and research. In this article we will go through what you should look for in a limo rental company for the best experience on a wedding day. First of all, if any of your friends or family have rented a limo and have been satisfied or dissatisfied with the service, be sure to take this into consideration. If somebody close to either the bride or the groom has a recommendation, this can make the process of choosing a limo service easy and painless. However, if you have no personal recommendations, here is how you should go about conducting your research and what you should be looking for. First of all, use the Internet. The Internet makes it easy to find all of the limo and transportation comapanies in your area. Using a web site like Yahoo! Local or Google Maps should render dozens of results. Once you have found the companies that can be considered possibilities, browse through the company’s web site. Most reputable limo rental services have professional web sites with all of the information you need. Look through the web sites and select a few vehicles that you are interested in renting. Most couples select a simple stretch Lincoln, but you can go for the stretch Hummer or Escalade if you are audacious enough. Once you have a list of possible vehicle choices, contact all companies to make sure that they will have the vehicles available for rental on your wedding day and how much it will cost. You should be able to get a limo for under $2000 so you shouldn’t need to spend much more than that on a limo rental service. You should also be sure to ask every company for a list of at least a few references that you can contact to get information about the company and the quality of service. With a business such as a local limousine company, this is the most effective, and often only, way to get information about a company. Once you have compiled all of this information, you need to analyze it to make sure the quote is in your budget and that previous clients have been happy with the service provided. If you follow the guidelines outlined above, you should be able to find a reputable limousine rental service who can give you the vehicle and service you want at a fair price. Choosing Pearl and Diamond Earrings

By Nathalie Fiset A pearl diamond earring is a classy gift that contains two different elements: the flash of the diamond and the quiet beauty of the pearl. This contrasting combination has been a very popular choice for jewelry and while it has been used for many years, each time, it is still a knockout. If youre planning to buy pearl and diamond earrings either as a gift or as part of your jewelry collection, then youve made a great choice. This combination is not only valuable, it also has lasting beauty and elegance. Know your pearls If the pearl is the more dominant gem in your earrings, then be sure to pick a good quality one. Even if the diamond/s in your earrings is high quality, a bad pearl can ruin the whole look of your jewelry. Here are a few tips and info on pearls: The pearl is the only gem that is produced by a live organism, namely mollusks and oysters. They are formed each time a foreign particle, like a grain of sand, enters the shell. The mollusk or oyster then reacts by treating it as an irritation and proceeds to coat it with nacre, a crystalline substance. It is the same substance that we find in the interior of the shell when we open it. The foreign particle is continuously coated with layers upon layers of nacre until it grows in size. In the end, this foreign particle with the layers of nacre becomes a pearl. Natural pearls are formed this way and are more often shaped irregularly. Cultured pearls are in no way inferior to natural pearls. They are still real pearls, except that their production involved a deliberate implanting of a foreign substance to stimulate a mollusk. The value of a pearl depends on its quality: the size, shape, color, thickness of the nacre, luster and texture. Since pearls are naturally occurring gems and no two are alike, these factors can vary greatly. Choosing your diamonds There are four Cs to note when choosing a diamond. These are good to note especially if it is the more dominant or focal gem in your earring. Cut involves two things: the shape of the diamond and the quality of the cut. Three of the most common are the brilliant cut, the princess cut and the emerald cut. The cut of the diamond will determine how brilliant its shine is and the more the cut brings out this quality, the higher the price. Of the three, the emerald cut is the most affordable. Color since diamonds are a natural substance, they are not always crystal clear. They come in different colors yellow, pink and red, with the last two the more expensive. Clarity refers to the number of imperfections found in your diamond. Imperfections or inclusions affect the way light is reflected by the stone, so the clearer the gem, the more expensive it is. Carat refers to the size of the diamond with one carat equal to about 200 mgs. An honest diamond seller will have jewelry marked with ct for carat or ctw/tcw for total carat weight. When buying earrings with diamonds, look for the tcw. Earrings are bought in pairs and so they should have two diamonds of equal size. How to care for your pearl and diamond earrings Pearls and diamonds may look good together as components of an earring, but their contrasting characteristics can actually affect their care. Pearls are softer gems because they are organic while diamonds are the hardest gemstones in the world. Pearls can get easily scratched or damaged if you are not careful about their storage so the best thing to do is, tailor your care on the weaker gem which is the pearl. Its not a good idea to store pearls with other hard jewelry. To keep your jewelry in good shape, try to store them in the box they were bought in. Each earring will have a separate hole where it can safely stay. This way, there is no danger of one of the diamonds scratching the pearl of the other earring. Pearls can also get affected by hair spray, sweat, body oils, colognes and perfumes. If youre planning to put on your earrings, best apply cosmetics first. This way, you will minimize chemical contact with your pearls. Acid Reflux: Study Says Drugs Just as Good as Surgery

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jessica_Deets] Jessica Deets According to a study mandated by a new Medicare law, data has come back saying that drugs can be just as effective as even surgery in managing the symptoms of Acid Reflux. This can affect many people, as it is estimated that sixty million Americans have acid reflux (GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease or GERD). Acid reflux is known as when a person’s stomach acid backs up into the esophagus and causes that heartburn feeling. Sometimes it can affect breathing and even cause a person to feel as is they are suffocating. If not treated, this may eventually lead to esophageal damage. Many people have noticed a susceptability to certain, highly acid foods and often have to avoid these foods to minimize the effects of their acid reflux. If you get woken up in the middle of the night from Acid Reflux, keep a journal of the foods eaten and make note of those foods you ate in the previous 12 hours. Then start eliminating those foods from your diet and see if you sleep and breathe better. Also… make sure to take the time to relax. Stress and Acid Reflux make for a bad combination and if you can’t sleep at night, you’ll just get more fatigued with each passing day. The good news is that the recent data indicates that people with debilitating acid reflux have a choice between taking pills or surgery. Here’s some of the things they found in this recent study: - With chronic GERD, over-the-counter medications (such as Zantac, Pepcid and Tagamet — each with their own respected trademarks) are not as effective as proton pump inhibitors. But the proton pump inhibitors can have more side effects. - The respected brands Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec OTC are all similar in the degree of effectiveness. And when compared to surgery, they seem to compare similarly in relieving the discomfort of GERD. If you have acid reflux, the best thing to do is to seek help from your medical professional. You can get trusted advice and then make your own choice. And for some people, their acid reflux may be so severe that they’ll need to have surgery and then follow up with medications to really get a handle on it. Jessica Deets researches the internet for the latest information to help people. For more information about Acid Reflux see the website at [http://www.AcidRefluxNews.com] http://www.AcidRefluxNews.com and you can comment on their blog at [http://www.AcidRefluxNews.com/blog/] http://www.AcidRefluxNews.com/blog/ Article Source: [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jessica_Deets ] http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jessica_Deets [http://ezinearticles.com/?Acid-Reflux:-Study-Says-Drugs-Just-as-Good-as-Surgery&id=115195 ] http://EzineArticles.com/?Acid-Reflux:-Study-Says-Drugs-Just-as-Good-as-Surgery&id=115195 ordering xanax online no priscription prescription xanax online with physical purchase xanax online buying xanax online

The Advantages of Getting a Graphic Design Degree

By Rich Points Graphic design could be a great career opportunity for you. It’s a growing, rapidly changing field that takes both talent and technical expertise, and those who are good at it are in great demand. If you are considering college or thinking about making a career change, you might consider getting a degree in graphic design. Why get a degree? It is true that there are a lot of talented graphic designers who pretty much learned everything they know on the job or “by the seat of their pants.” Because the profession has matured, however, that’s rarely possible anymore. It doesn’t matter how much talent or expertise you have, you’ll probably need a degree to break into the field. To be honest, that’s okay because earning a degree has lots of benefits. For one thing, there’s the whole college experience. Whether you’re a traditional (as in just out of high school) student or not, theres a lot to be gained from the experience of going to college. You make friends and contacts and connections within your future profession that you’ll be able to count on for the rest of your life. You learn the discipline necessary to start and finish a program. You learn about professional resources, literature and research. Most importantly, you learn how to learn. These are skills that you will need when you start to work as a graphic designer. Another advantage of going to school and getting a degree is that it gives you an opportunity to build your professional portfolio and develop your resume. By the time you graduate, you will have worked on many projects, and you can add each of those to your portfolio. You will have worked with teachers who are respected designers and with professional designers who are working in a variety of industries. Every experience you have, and every positive evaluation by someone within the profession will become part of your resume or your portfolio. When you graduate, you will have the knowledge and degree you need to get a job, and you’ll also have the tools, recommendations and experience that will open doors for you. What will you learn? Obviously, you’ll learn about graphic design, but that’s only the beginning. (Actually, it’s the end, because you tend to take your professional classes toward the end of your academic career.) You’ll take both general education and graphics design classes, and you’ll develop important professional skills. General education: A lot of people think general education requirements are a waste of time, but don’t blow them off and don’t underestimate how valuable they will be to you professionally. People who earn a degree in anything are generally assumed to be educated, and there are basic things educated people should know. Part of being educated is knowing how to communicate orally and in writing, having basic math skills and knowing a bit about science, literature and art. It’s important to be an educated person; it helps you to communicate with other educated persons. And graphic design is used in every one of those fields.
